Squarespace website design for service professionals

For example happy customers, see our portfolio page.

We specialise in Squarespace website design for consultants and professional service providers.

Squarespace is a platform for building websites, like Shopify or WordPress.

Having worked with: Shopify, WordPress and Craft CMS websites in the past, we know that Squarespace isn’t the best fit for everybody.

We do think that it’s a good fit for a lot of consultants and professional service providers.

By focusing on a specific platform we are able to provide our customers with quicker turnarounds and a higher level of expertise and service than we would be able to otherwise.

Whilst this site is built using Squarespace, we still own and maintain some WordPress sites, so we are accurately able to compare the two.

Why we like Squarespace:

  1. It’s affordable (see current pricing).

While WordPress is technically free, you still have to factor in good hosting, a theme builder and plugins. So really they work out around the same price.

  2. It’s not open source.

There are pros and cons of open-source software.

The fact that WordPress is open source means that lots of different developers sell lots of different plugins and themes. This can cause headaches trying to keep everything updated and playing nicely together.

  3. It’s intuitive and easy to edit.

We want you to be able to edit your website yourself and not have to pay a web designer every time you want to change a simple line of copy. We will provide you with instructions and training on how to edit your Squarespace website.

  4. No software updates required.

The open-source nature of WordPress means that every time WordPress releases an update, you should update all your themes and plugins to comply with the latest security and best practice.

You should always back up your website before doing this.

Updating can be a daunting process that business owners do not get around to for long periods of time causing security issues, or they have to constantly pay someone else to do it for them which is an extra cost.

  5. It still allows for customisable CSS.

While Squarespace has a very user-friendly builder, it still allows us to customise the site design with some code to give your site that little bit of wow-factor to make it stand out.

Who is Squarespace best for:

Consultants, coaches and service professionals who:

  1. want an elegant website that converts.

  2. would like to sell services online, offer gift cards, a few simple products or have a bookable calendar.

  3. would like a user-friendly website that follows SEO best practices.

  4. would eventually like to add an LMS (learning management system) add on. Eg. Sell online courses.

For example happy customers, see our portfolio page.

Who Squarespace is not good for:

  1. If you have a large number of physical products that you would like to sell online, we would recommend you go with Shopify.

If you have a limited budget, WooCommerce is more affordable for starting out, but for managing a large number of products, Shopify is the most comprehensive and seamless.

  2. If you would like to run a blog.

If your website is 100% about the blog (eg. you are an influencer), WordPress may be the best fit for this. WordPress is the original blogging software.

  3. If you require a great deal of customization.

WordPress has many, many plugins to choose from. It is possible that if you are after something super specific, WordPress may be a good fit for you or CraftCMS if you are after something a bit more high-end.

  4. If you require a staging site

If you require a staging site to hash some things out WordPress or CraftCMS may be a good fit for you.

A handy tool for telling what CMS a website was built with is https://whatcms.org/ . Use it to look up websites you like and see what they were built with.
